Well, it's no surprise to us but Ozark has been just named one of the best cities in Missouri to live in. ChamberofCommerce.Org just named Ozark the 12th best city in Missouri to call home, the highest ranking of any southwest Missouri city. Their reasons for the award were the amenities we offer, quality of life and good government. They know us pretty well, don't they? One of the summer highlights we all look forward to is Finley River Days. Just completed last weekend, this featured the Bass Pro Outdoor Days activities, a hot air balloon glow, great live music entertainment including country star Jason Pritchett, children's rides, more fun fair food than you should ever try in a two day period, BIG FIREWORKS, our world class rubber duck race and car giveaway and lots more. Our Finley River Park was bustling for two solid days. Don't miss next year's. If you haven't been to our "new and improved" Farmer's Market at Finley Farms, you should come out any Thursday evening this summer. There are lots of food, produce, craft vendor stands and live music. Pam and I love to buy the giant beefsteak tomatoes for our summer favorite, BLT's. And last week the fresh local blackberries were fantastic. And on these warm summer days, don't forget we have three places to jump in and cool off. You can swim indoors at The OC, outdoors at the Grubaugh Pool and, of course, the ole swimmin' hole on the Finley. Bring your canoes and kayaks also! On another note, you will start noticing road construction this summer in Ozark. While inconvenient for a while, the end result is better roads and much improved traffic flow. Please be patient with us. As you've heard us say many times, our goal is to Make Ozark Better Every Day. And we're doing it. Enjoy your summer! Rick Gardner Mayor

Before you set off your fireworks...

The City of Ozark allows fireworks to be discharged on: July 2 & 3 from 9:00 a.m.-10 p.m. July 4 & 5th from 9:00 a.m.-midnight and only if there is no burn ban in effect that day. Otherwise, it is against city ordinance to discharge fireworks any other time (apart from New Years Eve). If you see or hear fireworks being discharged inside Ozark city limits, you can call Christian County Dispatch at 417-582-1030 to report the violation of city ordinance. Rain Barrel Rebate Program

Rain Barrel Rebate Program: Rainwater harvesting systems capture and store the rainwater running off your rooftop. Captured water can be used for numerous things including watering your lawn or garden, filling ponds and even washing your car. This one-time rebate is issued as a direct reimbursement to homeowners at a rate of $0.50 per gallon, based upon your new system's capacity. For example, a 100-gallon system would yield a $50 rebate after installation. To qualify, systems must hold a minimum of 50 gallons. Maximum rebate per property is $300. Jackson Street (Missouri Route 14) Widening Project In Ozark Rescheduled for Construction in 2020

Ozark, Christian County -- In an effort to minimize possible congestion, traffic delays and economic impacts within Ozark, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and the City of Ozark collectively decided the Jackson Street (Missouri Route 14) widening project will begin construction once the South Street lane widening project is substantially complete. This decision was made during the planning phase of the project in 2017. To that end, the start of the Jackson Street project has been rescheduled for the spring/summer of 2020 with completion scheduled for late 2021. MoDOT and the City of Ozark are partners on intersection improvements (South Street at Selmore Road/3rd Street and Jackson Street at Route NN) which are included within the lane widening projects. The intersection projects are being funded with a 2017 voter-approved 3/8-cent sales tax. Together, MoDOT and the city of Ozark, remain committed to completing these projects. More information about the start of the Jackson Street project will be announced in spring 2020 when a contractor is hired to construct the project. Jackson Street Project highlights: Widen Jackson Street (Route 14) to five lanes between 16th Street and the Finley River bridge Widen intersection of Jackson Street/Route NN/10th Street and relocate 10th Street to become the south leg of the intersection Install new storm drains and add curb and gutter along Jackson Street Construction: Spring/summer 2020 until late 2021 Estimated total cost: $9.3 million South Street Project highlights: Widen South Street (Business 65) to five lanes between 19th Street and 6th Street Widen intersection of South Street/Selmore Road/3rd Street by adding dual turn lanes from northbound Selmore Road to westbound South Street and from southbound 3rd Street to eastbound South Street and adding two eastbound and two westbound through lanes Install new storm drains and add curb and gutter along South Street Build sidewalks in areas along South Street Construction: December 2018 until spring 2020 Estimated total project cost: $8.5 million Prime contractor: Hartman & Company, Inc. of Springfield END (For more information, call MoDOT in Springfield at 417-895-7600 or visit www.modot.org/southwest) (Follow MoDOT's Southwest District: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram |YouTube)

Ozark Employee Spotlight

Amber Ryan, Geographic Information System Intern for Public Works Amber Ryan is the new GIS intern for the City of Ozark's Public Works department. Some of the responsibilities of her job include maintaining Ozark's GIS databases, collecting GPS data, and providing maps for anyone who might need them. A few favorite aspects of her job include the opportunity to apply her knowledge to real world, practical situations, different projects which allow her to be creative in her work, and the people she works with. Amber is a recent Missouri State University graduate from Strafford, Missouri. While going for her Bachelor's in Planning and a minor in sustainability, Amber interned at Ozark Greenways where she was able to learn about and explore the region's great trail system. Her internship will last over the summer and she is excited to see where the opportunity to work with Ozark will take her.
