Will Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continue to defend Blackwater Xe’s despicable owner Erik Prince, and continue to recommend funding his thousands of billions of dollars in known and unknown contracts with the citizens of the U.S.?

Or will she be the first Cabinet-level official to demonstrate both backbone and integrity by recommending that those contracts be cancelled due to Xe’s corporate moral turpitude, and awarded to other companies, which are ready to go?

Veteran reporter Helen Thomas has license to say what no other reporter in the White House Press Corps can. Today, she exercised it.
“I want them to stop killing,” she abruptly told White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
The statement came after Gibbs dodged a question as to whether the Obama administration will continue contracting the mercenary group formerly known as Blackwater Worldwide.
The New York Times revealed recently that the CIA had contracted Blackwater assassins to hunt down and kill members of al Qaeda.

Nation magazine reporter Jeremy Scahill wrote, “What this was, effectively, was a hit squad that responded to one branch of government, the executive branch, at the expense of any oversight or involvement of the other two. I would say that this was unconstitutional.”
“The epicenter of this scandal,” he said, “is that Dick Cheney is alleged to have ordered the CIA to conceal from the Congress, which has oversight authority, the existence of a secret CIA assassination plan. … Blackwater, we now know, served as a buffer between the executive branch of the government and accountability.”
“I asked for an update, which I have not yet gotten, on where we are with different contracts,” Gibbs explained to Thomas on Friday. “As relation to CIA’s use of contracting … Uh … Uh … I would look at specifically to them for responses on that.”
Thomas replied: “I don’t think they’ll tell me.”
Gibbs’ response was to coddle her.
“You use that sweet voice on the phone, you never know what you’re gonna get,” he said.
The press secretary, turning to his right, called on another reporter. “Savannah?”
Thomas interrupted.
“I want them to stop killing,” she insisted.
“You should … Let them know,” Gibbs retorted.
“You should too,” said Thomas.
“I know,” he replied sarcastically.
Leaning into the mic, Gibbs whispered, “I think they’re listening.”
Blackwater Worldwide founder Erik Prince is accused by former employees of murdering or facilitating the murders of several people preparing to turn over evidence of the firm’s alleged wrongdoing.
On Sept. 17, 2007, Blackwater guards shot and killed 17 Iraqi civilians, including woman and children, in a Baghdad market. On charges related to the massacre, five of the guards later surrendered to U.S. authorities. A sixth flipped, admitted to participating in the killings and turned over information against the others.
Because of the massacre, the Iraqi government in January banned Blackwater from operating in the country.
Under its new name, Xe, the firm’s guards are still being deployed to Iraq, under a contract with the U.S. State Department.
“We follow the direction of our U.S. government client,” an Xe spokeswoman told The Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

And Helen Thomas … She wants that to stop.
