Good morning! Freezing rain has developed as expected this morning but it is rather showery in nature. Rather than a large shield of freezing rain it comes in pockets. Most of southern and central Missouri will see some ice this morning but the amounts will vary from place to place. Overall I expect a tenth or less in far southern Missouri and a trace in Arkansas, around a quarter inch or so around Springfield, and slightly higher amounts in spots. The freezing line continues to be the main forecast challenge.
It appears we’ll see that line get to around highway 60 this afternoon, changing Springfield to rain. I think we’ll stay above freezing the rest of the weekend in southern Missouri, but central Missouri may stay below freezing into Sunday morning. Additional rounds of rain or freezing rain are likely tonight through Sunday, so the most likely spots for any power problems will be north of Springfield. By Sunday we’ll see temperatures go above freezing area-wide with rain especially in the morning. The main storm will move through Monday and Monday night, spiking the temperatures in the 50s and 60s and bringing the chance for a few storms.
