As a Man Thinketh is likely one of the most read books in the Law of Attraction and New Thought movement genre and it is one of the shorter books as well, ideal for readers who just want to go right to the point.
James Allen writes that “The Vision that you glorify in your mind, the Ideal that you enthrone in your heart — this you will build your life by, this you will become.” meaning that by keeping a constant focus on what we wish to be, in spite of current circumstances, you can transform yourself into that ideal itself.
The essence of this book is that “A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.”
The aphorism, "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he," not only embraces the whole of a man’s being, but is so comprehensive as to reach out to every condition and circumstance of his life. A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.
Allen first published this book in 1902 eight years before Wallace D. Wattles classic The Science of Getting Rich and some 35 years before Napoleon Hill’s classic “Think and Grow Rich.” The principles which later was so called ‘The Secret” or “The Law of Attraction” were clearly and convincingly stated for the first in “As a Man Thinketh.”
