Find beauty in my flaws, for they are what make me unique. At first glance you do not see all of me. I am more than just my disabilities. I am special. I am beautiful. I am all that I am meant to be. So take a second look. Try not to focus on what makes me different but what makes me just like you. I smile when I am happy. I cry when I am upset. I have feelings too. I may not express them the way you do, but it still hurts me to be looked at differently.
Find strength in my challenges, for they will never define me or hold me back. Do not pity me. I am fulfilled and happy. I have adapted to the world around me. This is all I know. I can do anything you can do, it may just be in a different way. And if I cannot, that is ok, because at least I know I tried. I push myself to learn new things, but at my own pace. Do not compare me or get discouraged. All I need is your love and understanding to reach my full potential.
Find hope in my future, for it is destined to be great. I will go far in life in spite of what others think. I am of value and worth. I do not have the same fear for my future that others have. I overcome obstacles and face the world head on. That is how I was taught. My challenges have given me strength and my flaws have made me beautiful. I have seen the worry on my parent's faces and I know they are scared of the unknown. I wish they could see the world through my eyes, then they would know how great of a life they have given me.
For my daughter,
Alyssa
