Swimming fast is a combination of fitness and technique, one is about physical hard work, the other more mental. We are going to be looking into the recovery part of the front crawl stroke and showing how you can improve this phase.
Now, because the recovery phase doesn’t actually propel us forward, it can also be easy to think that it doesn’t add anything to our stroke.
But in actual fact, it really does. It helps to:
- Stabilise and balance your stroke - almost like a counterweight.
- Add forward momentum to your stroke.
- Streamline your hand entry.
- Coordinate the timing of your stroke, including the timing of your breathing.
