In this video, I share my experience of doing an active recovery swim in cold water, and how it helps me stay fit and healthy. I also talk about the construction noise I heard from the nearby hill, where they are building a subdivision on top of a mountain. I wonder why they don’t use those hills as parks instead. I also mention some things I might show you later, but I won’t spoil them for you. Watch the video to find out more! Don’t forget to leave a comment, like, and subscribe to my channel for more swimming tips and stories. 😊👍🏊🏼‍♂️🚴🏼‍♂️💪🏼

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced swimmer, this article will provide you with the information you need to swim for active recovery.

Why Active Recovery?

Active recovery is a powerful tool for improving performance and preventing injury as it helps to flush out by-products of exercise and speed up the recovery process.

Through a combination of low-intensity activities such as walking, stretching, and foam rolling, our bodies are able to restore muscle function and reduce fatigue. This can help improve the quality of our training sessions, as well as encourage the growth of healthy tissue.

By taking part in active recovery, you can maximize the benefit of your swimming sessions and improve your overall health.

Sample Active Recovery Swim Session

An active recovery swim session can help you maintain muscle strength and endurance while giving your body a needed break.

When swimming for active recovery, it is important to keep the intensity low and focus on technique. Here is an example of an active recovery swim session that you can try:

  • Warm up with a 400-meter swim at an easy pace.
  • Follow this with 10 x 50-meter drills focusing on technique.
  • Finally, cool down with a 400-meter swim at an easy pace.

Make sure to rest between sets and pay attention to your body.

Other Benefits of Swimming

Swimming can help improve your cardiovascular health and strength as well as aid in active recovery from injuries. It is an effective form of low-impact exercise that can assist with weight loss, help tone muscles, and build endurance.

Additionally, swimming can be beneficial to your emotional well-being by reducing stress and anxiety levels. It can also help reduce cognitive decline and improve your mental clarity.

Swimming is an ideal form of exercise for people of all ages and abilities, and it can be used to help you reach your fitness and wellness goals.

Conclusion

Swimming is an excellent form of active recovery as it combines physical activity with relaxation.

It is low-impact and has a wide range of benefits including improved cardiovascular fitness, improved flexibility and range of motion, and improved mental health. Swimming can also be a great way to cross-train and supplement your regular workout plan.

If you are looking for an activity to help you recover and rest, swimming is an excellent option.

Freestyle swimming: How I swim my smoothest 100 meters in 1:05

Once you master this swimming freestyle technique, it is definitely a very useful way to swim long distances. By the end of the video you'll know how to do at least one arrow freestyle stroke, that is the foundation. Then you can start building up your endurance and coordination from there. To be honest I knew how to swim freestyle like this but I had never tried perfecting it. The first time that I did a 100 like this I did it in 1:11 and then watched video and practiced it longer until I felt comfortable to record it and show it. Then I worked hard to reverse engineer and break down the technique and everything that is required to do it to do this swimming video.

Recovery - How To Swim Front Crawl | Freestyle Swimming Technique

Swimming fast is a combination of fitness and technique, one is about physical hard work, the other more mental. We are going to be looking into the recovery part of the front crawl stroke and showing how you can improve this phase.

Now, because the recovery phase doesn’t actually propel us forward, it can also be easy to think that it doesn’t add anything to our stroke. But in actual fact, it really does. It helps to: - Stabilise and balance your stroke - almost like a counterweight. - Add forward momentum to your stroke. - Streamline your hand entry. - Coordinate the timing of your stroke, including the timing of your breathing.
